I spotted these unusual looking birds for the first time on my recent visit to Wombeyan Gang-gang Cockatoos are one of the more distinctive and charismatic members of our Australia's birdlife. Found in the cooler and wetter forests and woodlands of Australia, particularly alpine bushland, male Gang-gangs have a very pronounced red head and crest, while the female has a small fluffy grey crest. They are easily identified by their distinctive call, which is described as resembling a creaky gate, or the sound of a cork being pulled from a wine bottle.
